Dr. Sean Cotter, founder of Liberty Wellness & Chiro has been practicing chiropractic for nearly two decades. He graduated from State University of New York at Stony Brook with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and received his Doctor of Chiropractic degree with honors from New York Chiropractic College.
Prior to pursuing his studies in chiropractic Dr. Cotter performed molecular biology and cancer research for the department of Human Genetics and Development at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and Department of Pediatrics, Division of Hematology-Oncology, Schneider Children’s Hospital of LIJ where he co-authored and provided technical expertise for several research papers in prestigious science journals. However, his work in research was overshadowed by a strong interest and passion for chiropractic that developed during his teenage years after injuring his lower spine.
Following his years in research he joined the New York City Fire Department where he worked as a firefighter in Ladder Company #16 and Hazardous Materials Company #1 for 10 years. He attended New York Chiropractic College while working for the FDNY.
His clinical experience has led him to the creation of a unique approach in which his practice offers a full spectrum of treatment options to fit the needs of every individual patient. He maintains a strong commitment to patient health and wellness and utilizes numerous chiropractic techniques including Cox flexion distraction, cervical traction, diversified technique, Gonstead technique and manipulation under anesthesia (MUA).
He also incorporates corrective exercises in patient treatment regimens so they can better maintain their spinal corrections. He is a member of the ACA (American Chiropractic Association), is a former Membership Chairperson of NYS Chiropractic Association and is certified in Manipulation under Anesthesia (MUA).
Dr. Cotter enjoys a healthy, active lifestyle; playing basketball and golf, running, swimming, and is the proud father of three.
